Manual lessons are charged at an hourly rate of £35.
Automatic lessons are charged at an hourly rate of £37.
The Process:
In order to even begin learning you need to apply for a provisional driving licence, you cannot learn to drive without one. This is an official document that is required for you to sit both your theory and practical test and to drive on the road throughout the learning process.
Before you sit your practical test you need to have passed your theory test first. This is a two part computer based test - hazard perception and a series of multiple choice questions. It is designed to test your knowledge of the Highway Code which is essential for your new life on the road.
Theory guidance is provided throughout the ‘in car’ practical lessons which will assist your learning process. Alongside this, there are multiple online tools to help you prepare. The cost of the DVSA theory test is £23.00.
You can have your first driving lesson on your 17th birthday providing you have a provisional driving licence.
The practical test is the culmination of your learning process. The DVSA practical test fee is £62.00 plus the cost of the driving school vehicle.
How long will it take me?
The Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) states that on average the learning process takes 45 hours + an additional 22 hours of private practice. However, some individuals may need more or less than the average.
It is worth noting that learning to drive is like learning any other skill, knowledge or language. The more frequently you practice it the better you become. We find here at Valley that pupils who get the most out of their lessons are the ones who frequently practice the content covered. This way the time spent with your Instructor is better utilised, accelerating the learning process but more importantly your driving standards are higher, and thus safer.

Before you hop into a car and drive off into the sunset, you need to ensure you have the correct insurance policy for the car you plan to drive.
Don’t forget, you can further develop your driving skillset, the learning doesn’t have to stop when you pass your test:
